HoopYogini™ Certified Instructor, Christina Pearce talks about how simplicity can bring more than what is expected.
Tell us how you started Hooping.
Christina: I remember hooping with my sister as a kid and then It was reintroduced to me as an adult when Jocelyn began getting enthusiastic about it. We have been friends for a long time and I also teach yoga, so naturally it began to be part of my practice as well.
What do you love about hooping, or what has hooping meant for you?
Christina: Hooping connects me to my playful yet profoundly spiritual yearnings. It is a mindful meditation and yet still a major workout! It offers a space me to explore my sensual nature and brings a lovely sense of joy and well-being for me.
What do you love about HoopYogini™ ?
Christina: HoopYogini™ has many Yin, Yang principals with lines and circles to awaken the spine. I enjoy the feeling of expansion that this energy supports in the body, and it literally helps you to lift yourself, vibrationally, with its beautiful affirmations.
Give us a little background about yourself as a teacher.
Christina: I have been teaching Yoga for the past 10 years and lead countless workshops with yoga, art, meditation and dance. I’m a Professor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where I’ve been teaching yoga for 8 years and I also offer guided creative visualization meditations to stimulate imagination and intention. HoopYogini™ is my latest exciting addition. I love to teach! But I will always be a student.
What would you say to new HoopYogini™ practitioners?
Christina: Sometimes just closing your eyes and feeling the pleasure of the circular movement around your waist is all you need. Less is more and you don’t always need to be so technical all the time to enjoy the benefits. Don’t let your mind take over. Feel the joy of the experience.
Share a bit of your message, values, and aspirations as a teacher and hooper?
Christina: Keep it simple. Less is more. Appreciate your body in each moment to add unimaginable value to your life experience!
