“The hoop activated joy for me and it took me on a ride that I am still on.”
22 years ago at a String Cheese concert/festival, the U.S. Mother of Modern Hoop Dance, Anah aka Hoopalicious, had her first experience in the hoop.
In this interview, Anah:
- describes the gateway every hooper enters as they develop a unique strength of being
- provides an invitation to new hoopers who want to unlock the doorways to new and expanded movement
- illuminates how transformation can happen by diving deeply into the simplicity of one movement
- encourages you to develop your unique signature and to be willing to claim what you love about hooping (regardless of what others think about it)

Mad Hoop Props & Power To The Authentic
“The idea of The Hoop Path is to keep yourself tuned so you find your authenticity.”
The self proclaimed “Grumpy Old Man in The Hoop Community”, and the creator of The Hoop Path - Baxter - is the Vinn Marti (creator of “Soul Motion" > look him up) of the Hoop Dance Community.
With a family lineage including ministers and teachers, Baxter is an orator preaching authenticity as the pathway to the soul.
In this interview you hear about the Maidan, a mythology and set of beliefs that Baxter created/received/channelled and delivers in his workshops. The Maidan are an expression of elementals, qualities and virtues of beings who come into their strength and power through the hoop.
Baxter also waxes on:
- The challenges and opportunities that “New School” hoopers have such as so many tricks, Instagram and the traps of narcissism
- The challenges and opportunities the “Old School” faced such as only having a toolbox of six moves :), YouTube was just arising and Instagram wasn’t even a thing

Emma, the founder of SWhoop, Hoop Stars Auction, the Bristol hoop community and so many more creations, tells us how the birth of her successful hoop business coincided with completing her doctorate in immunology.
This interview celebrates the styles of the US and UK hoop dance community and the rapidly evolving movement language inspired by Instagram.
Emma reminds us that there are different generations within the hoop dance community - different styles and ways of expression - and that we are still part of the same community.
On sabbatical to deepen into her own hoop practice, Emma is excited by the genius of the new generation of hoopers and is creating space for taking her skills to the next level.
