For Anita Filbeck, of Radiance Hooping, the hoop has been her lifeline to her soul and in this interview she speaks on the transformation that her HoopYogini™ practice has shown her.
How did you discover hooping? I went to a weekend womens event and met Ariana Shelton and her daughter from Hooping Harmony. Like most women who come across a hula hoop I thought, “I haven’t hooped since a was a kid, I cant do that!” It was ironic that I automatically went into the “I can’t” mode. Well, not only was I able to keep the hoop up but I immediately felt the mind, body, spirit connection and was guided to share this modality with other women. I became certified as a Radiant You Hoop Instructor in September of 2014 and opened my business in November of 2014.
What do you love about hooping and what has it meant for you? I love how the hoop melts into my body. Whether I need to release stress, tension, or frustration, and whether I need to re-energize or rejuvenate I know that all I need to do is pick up my hoop, feel the rhythm and within seconds the magic happens! Hooping has been the lifeline to my soul. The hoop has given me permission to explore, transform and find my inner light, my inner guidance, my connection to self and others.
What do you love about HoopYogini™? I love that HoopYogini™ combines two of my favorite modalities, Hooping and Yoga. I was actually in the process of looking for a yoga teacher course as I was developing some of my own combinations with the hoop and yoga when I came across Jocelyn Gordon’s HoopYogini™ course.
What do you love most about teaching? I love the connection and sharing with others. I find as I give inspiration and empowerment I also receive. A beautiful blessing indeed.
Give us a sense of your background or approach with teaching. I have been a registered nurse for 30 years, as well as a health coach, healing touch practitioner, ordained minister, and angel intuitive. Notice a theme here? I am passionate in my journey as a natural born teacher and leader.
Share your message, values, and aspirations as a teacher and hooper. Our day to day life keeps us so busy, always in the” DOING”. It is important to take time each day to “BE.” Take a few moments each day to be in that quiet space where we can hear what our inner guidance is wanting us to know. I believe we each have a beautiful light to shine. My business name, Radiance Hooping, was born of this belief- “RADIANCE” It is my aspiration that all I come in contact with will know, and believe in, their own unique radiance!
