HoopYogini™ Instructor Spotlight: Sarah McIntire

Sep 05, 2019

Sarah McIntire, of Earthsong Healing, is a Certified HoopYogini™ Instructor who leads from the heart and while staying grounded, honoring the divine and living life.

How did you discover hooping?

A couple of friends of mine began hooping several years ago and watching their flow always left me in awe. I hooped off and on during that time but wasn’t blessed with the coordination to sync it all together into a dance and I felt awkward and clumsy. I discovered Jocelyn Gordon while learning about Hoop Camp. I was getting ready to start my 200 hour yoga teacher training and I saw HoopYogini™ integrating hula hooping with hatha yoga! That’s it. All I had to do was read the article title and I was sold. I signed up for a couple free videos and went through the practice and fell in love. Fast forward 2 years and here I am, certified to teach this beautiful, healing modality.

What do you love about hooping and what has it meant for you?

I love the cardio, I love the excitement, I love the rhythm, I love the spinning and I love to get lost in all of that! Hooping gives me a sense of flight, without having to leave the ground. It’s a blessed feeling.

What do you love about HoopYogini™?

I love the simple philosophy. Life can be complicated and one of the ways I come back to myself is through my yoga practice. HoopYogini™ offers me a space that allows me to let go of the mind-stuff by focusing on the present moment. For example, I have to really pay attention to where the hoop is on my body in every moment. If I lose that, the hoop drops. I LOVE THAT! My personal practice in mindfulness has been taken to a new level thanks to HoopYogini™. My body is centered but blossoming at the same time. It’s magical!

What do you love most about teaching?

Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to teach but I thought I would be teaching children in a school setting. I never considered yoga, let along something as sensational as HoopYogini™. Yet here I am, teaching it! I find so much joy in this practice. It provides me with physical liberation and a contentment I cannot totally describe. Everyone should be given the opportunity to feel these feels and so…I teach.

Give us a sense of your background or approach with teaching.

My physical background is Hatha yoga and now, HoopYogini™. My approach is gentle and healing. It’s all about pranayama, allowing the breath to cue the body. My business name is Earthsong Healing because I believe that we pull our strength up from the foundations of the Earth, grounding us, keeping us rooted to the beginning, which is so important in this crazy world we live in. One of my students dubbed my classes “Soul Yoga” and I think that’s a pretty appropriate title.

Share your message, values, and aspirations as a teacher and hooper.

My mission… to always lead from the heart, to help people discover their path of health and wellness through physical practice, spiritual absorption and mental clarity.

I believe in people helping people, sharing gifts, honoring the divine and living life.
